Comparative research of computed tomography angiography and magnetic resonance angiography for intracranial aneurysm diagnosis value

[Abstract] Objectives: To explore the clinical value of CTA and MRA in diagnosis of intracranial aneurysms by contrast analysis of CTA and MRA examination.Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted by reviewing the DSA, CTA or MRA images records of 60 patientswith suspected intracranial aneurysms. For the 60 patients, 30 patients with CTA and 30 patients with MRA examination. Image post-processing methods include maximum intensity projection (MIP) and volume rendering (VR). DSA diagnosis and arterial aneurysm clipping surgery were regarded as diagnostic criterion for aneurysm to compare the ability of CTA and MRA for intracranial aneurysms manifestation.Results: In 60 cases, a total of 30 aneurysms were confirmed by DSA and surgery, including 16 of 30 aneurysms showed by CTA, and 14 of 30 aneurysms showed by MRA. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of CTA in intracranial aneurysms diagnosis were 93.3%, 86.7%, and 90.0% respectively. For MRA, the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy in intracranial aneurysms diagnosis were 60.0%, 66.7%, and 63.3% respectively.Conclusions: CTA examination is a fast, safe, and non-invasive method for the effective diagnosis of cerebral aneurysms, and could be the optimal examination for clinical screening of intracranial aneurysms.
